Happy Valentines Day to all my friends out there

~Love is in the air~

This is the day where we can expect to see

many ladies receiving flowers in offices

many ladies carry flowers in town

many couples strolling hand in hand

Yet how many people know the true origin of this unique day

The origin of Valentine's Day aka Saint Valentine's Day, comes from the life and death of a Christian martyr? The date traditionally celebrated as St. Valentine's Day finds it origin in the Roman festival of romance called Lupercalia, when the gods Juno and Pan were honored. It was a fertility festival or a lover's holiday looking forward to the return of Spring. In the fifth century, in an attempt to abolish the pagan festival, Pope Gelasius changed Lupercalia and its February 15 date to February 14 and called it Saint Valentine's Day. Even though the names and the date were changed, the emphasis continued to be on love.

But who was the real Saint Valentine? St. Valentine was a Roman Christian who, according to tradition, was martyred during the persecution of Christians in the third century by Emperor Claudius II. The only thing certain about the day we remember as St. Valentine's Day is that it commemorates a martyrdom. Claudius II declared all Christians illegal citizens. By his definition, they were guilty of treason because Roman citizens were required by law to worship the Emperor by declaring publicly, "Caesar is Lord!" Of course, this no Christian could do.

The real Valentine was a Roman Christian martyred during the third century A.D. by the Emperor Claudius II. Prior to his death, Valentine continued to minister in prison by witnessing to his prison guards. One of the guards was a good man who had adopted a blind girl. He asked Valentine if his God could help his daughter. Valentine prayed and the girl was given her sight. The guard and his whole family, 46 people, believed in Jesus and were baptized. When the Emperor heard about this he was furious that Valentine was still making converts even in prison, so he sentenced Valentine to death.

Just before being led out to his execution, the young Christian wrote a note to the jailer's daughter, signing it, "From your Valentine." The first valentine was really a Christian witness. Growing out of this story we participate in a custom of sending cards to people we love.

Given that the tradition of sending love notes grows out of a letter written by St. Valentine to his jailer's daughter on the eve of Valentine's execution, it's ironic that the card we send has received the emphasis, instead of remembering the content of the original Valentine's card: a message of unconditional devotion to Christ, even upon pain of death.

Over time the word "Saint" has been dropped from St. Valentine's Day, further obscuring the origins of this holiday. Instead of a negative reaction to some of the pagan origins of the day, why not celebrate the true love that compelled young Valentine to give up his life?

Remember that the day we know as St. Valentine's Day actually commemorates the death of an early Christian martyr, Valentine, who was put to death for refusing to renounce his faith in Christ.

It is an all-giving love that was and is willing to suffer and die for our deliverance.

Will you be God's valentine? It is your choice. Say yes and give to God the love He desires. And when you do, remember the first Valentine and how he gave everything, including his life, to the God he loved.

Four days of CNY

Hubby has been working night shift

I've been spending it alone at mummy place

With nothing with me, the only entertainment is i have is watching movie

The heat from the candle keeps the water in the jug warm

BUT

This candle will never boil the water

But the heat from the stove is different

It is High in temperature

It BOILS and the water

If you turn it off every 1 min and on it back again a min later

Boss called us all into his office again
Bad omen

Each time he summoned all of us in

It was nothing surprising
With the new structure, we know she will go. It's a matter of time. But it indeed happened faster then expected

In another 1 month to go
There will only be 2 seniors left. Everyone else will be new. It's not a bad thing actually. I won't had mind staying on.... ... BUT no! Cos she would still be there and the chance of her leaving is really low.

She can be a good friend but not a good boss. Her mood swings are intimidating to me. I work well under supervision but not close monitoring. I would appreciate if she don't yak at me that often. Well.. It's after all a kind a leadship.. Just the kind I can't work under.

I miss the good old days where bosses are like friends. Good works are appreciated. Praises are generous. Mistakes are forgiven and pardoned graciously. Of course, everyone of us put in our bEst efforts. We never mind doing more just to serve our boss. Those were the days.

An interesting conversation I had with Hubby last night. We concluded that I an not an excellent employer but I will be a really good boss who care for my staffs well being. I will be a good employee to a boss who allows me to act on my own without compromising on results.

2 weeks more.. What's in next for me?

God will open up doors of opportunities for me :)

Food was not exactly good but I guess it was good enough for the elders :)

Company was good.. Haha for once I feel like an adult in their presence.
Maybe there is really a difference between married and singlehood.

Facilitated by the smart gentleman who retired his wife at age 27. WOW!

Felt my mind refreshed after the workshop.
It's alway good to be in companionship with positive people.

After the workshop, Hubby and I went Geylang for a yummy dinner.

Stability in a department is crucial, especially HR. HR folks are the nannies of employees - taking care of their benefits and welfare, the listening ear to their injustice, the voice of employees to fight for their rights.
In short: HR is placed to make working life for all a happier journey.

With a constant change in HR personnel within an organization, what is the implying message?

A little trip to Sentosa

Official Trip to Sentosa.

Went to collect Universal Studios tickets for my BUs. Lucky peeps! Free tickets from the company. Breakfast provided! Wow! Sadly, I have no share in it.

This is my FIRST TIME so near to Universal Studios. WOW! Looks so exciting but it's so expensive. Hubby doesn't take rides.. Definitely not worth us paying so much just to satisfy my cam-whoring desires.

Am in search of Delifrance. Have placed an advance order with them for Saturday event.

It has been too long since I last step into Sentosa. Took me a long time to find my way to Delifrance. Still... task completed!
